This year in Biology everyone is required to have a separate Biology blog. This blog tracks what we learn in class, some pictures if we want, as well as reflections to what we learn in Biology. To see this super cool blog, click the link below!

Definition of Biology:
Biology is a natural science concerned with the study of life and living organisms, including their structure, function, growth, origin, evolution, distribution, and taxonomy. Biology is a vast subject containing many subdivisions, topics, and disciplines. Among the most important topics are five unifying principles that can be said to be the fundamental axioms of modern biology
For one of our projects we created a website on a given system in the human body. The system my group got was the Digestive system. My project reflection is below.
Before this project we focused on all the systems in a human body. We had guest speakers come into our class and talk about what it was like to be living with or to have gotten over a serious cancer to the body, or malfunction to the body. This helped broaden our understanding of things that are capable of going wrong in the body as well as how things in the body work. This includes cell processes and mutations that can happen. We also are familiar with making websites so this is also something that helped us down the road of our project, given we had to create websites on our system.
The purpose of this project was to focus on just one system in the body and find ways to connect that to mutimedia projects, people in our town with a probelm related to this system, as well as a community connection meaning going planning something in our town to help educate people on protecting this system. Each group member had a different task within this project and this also taught us to be responsible and to use our time wisely in and out of class. I think every group member got a lot out of this project and coming out of it we all have a better understanding of our system- the digestive system.
As a class we went through a list of possible tasks to do in our group, each person giving Mrs. Colleen their top 3 choices. They also provided their top two or so more desired systems to research. Mrs. Colleen then went through this and decided who would be in what group, studying what as to give as many students possible their preferred choices. These groups were all very similar in size, with each person assigned their own job to complete throughout the duration of this project.
My role that I signed up for as a first choice was the "Overall Website Design and Community Connections." This meant I had the job of being the group's overseer to check in on how they were doing on the project from time to time. I also had to plan out community connections. Having the total responsibility of Community Connections meant that I had to single-handdedly plan out our community connection with what we did, what we would say, what classes to see, where to do it, etc. We ended up doing our connection at a local elementary school. Overall I think that my job was one of the most time oriented job there were, but in the end I think our job came out pretty smoothly.
I think the thing that I was most proud of in this project would be how we got everything done on time, meaning a lot of groups were unable to complete getting all of their work on to the website in time for the turn in date, but we were able to get all of our pages done and refined in the alloted time. One thing I think I would like to refine more would be to make our website slightly more professional with how the appearance was. Our website was good, but I feel that in some aspects there could have been more places that looked more professional than it did. On the next project I think that I might make it more refined by taking my time on more parts instead of going super fast on the entire thing. Taking my time will insure that the final product is quality. It also would help to work on it a lot at home since the majority of the time I have access to a computer at home too. This project was relevant because everyone has a digestive system and I think it is important to know how to take care of it.Eating healthy in terms of what to eat, what to avoid and how much of it; the proper amount of exercise; and also cancers that have the chance to show up in areas related to the digestive system. Eating and exercise are relatable because everyone needs to know how to take care of their body and how to feed it right, and work it right. Something I'll take away from this project will be how to communicate to your group throughout a project like this. Having to figure out how to advocate and refine with a lot of people can be really difficult given a short deadline on top of that. I also figured out how to use Blogger even more than before this project, having to suffer through the pages, color and scheme of this website was a little tricky, but I now have further knowledge on how to use it which will be helpful making my DP and other websites in the future.
